‘There is no way one player will accept being on the bench’ – Riveiro on Lepasa, Saleng & co.

Jose Riveiro has opened on the difficultly of managing some of Orlando Pirates' non-regulars this season and praised the squad for maintaining a positive team spirit.

The Buccaneers continued their good form with a third straight victory when they defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 at Mpumalanga Stadium thanks to goals from Patrick Maswanganyi and Karim Kimvuidi.

Despite the results, Riveiro has come under some criticism from sections of supporters over selections.

Last season DStv Premiership Players' Player of the Season Monnapule Saleng started just five league matches this season, while Zakhele Lepasa, the club's top scorer this season, last started a match at the beginning of October.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Riveiro opened up the difficulty on managing the squad of ambitious players and particularly those that had not started matches in recent months.

"It's difficult obviously (managing non-regulars), it's not the easy part of the job," Riveiro told journalists.

"But that's why we (the technical team) are here. To show that we have the capacity to manage that part of the job.

"Not being on the field is a problem without a solution, every player wants to be on the field, and they want to always be on the field.

"There is no way that one player will accept being on the bench, especially in a squad like this, where every player feels and is important.

"But they are doing a good job, the most important thing in the end is the brotherhood between them, that whoever is on the bench is supporting the one of the field, that is the most important thing, that is what tells me that we are doing a good job together,"Riviero added.

"Eventually, there will always be situation during the season, not bad behaviour because they are behaving very well, but there is always ups and down in the mood but it's not the case (at Pirates).

"I have to say that during my time with Pirates, even though it's a difficult part of the job, they have been behaving very well and obviously when you get good results."
