Didier Drogba: Using his powers and possessions for good

This African striker has scored goals all over the world and after an incredible career, his list of prized possessions is simply incredible.

Didier Drogba decided to hang up his boots in 2018 and at the end of his illustrious journey as a professional footballer, he was regarded as arguably one of Africa's best-ever strikers with a list of achievements that would be extremely hard for many of his peers to match.

The most notable period of his career his perhaps during his time with English giants Chelsea FC, for whom he scored 164 goals and collected 88 assists in 381 appearances across all competitions. It was also where he decorated his trophy cabinet with outstanding achievements.

With the Blues, he managed to win four Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League, four FA Cups, and three League cups. The ex-Ivory Coast national team captain was also awarded Chelsea's Player of the Year award on two occasions: in 2006 and 2009. He was also the EPL's top scorer at the end of the 2006/07 and 2009/10 seasons.

Although what is even more remarkable is the fact that his achievements is not only limited to the accolades he won on the pitch. In fact, the Ivorian has been making big strides in other environments as well.

Excelling in the classroom

Drogba received an honorary degree, an academic degree for which a university has waived all of the usual requirements, for his footballing, political, and humanitarian contributions to his home country.

"It is with pride and gratitude that I've accepted to be elevated to the rank of Doctor Honoris Causa of the RUSTA University," the former striker wrote on social media.

He also gave inspirational advice to the youngsters wo may be looking up to him as a role model, telling them to "dare to dream, it's priceless."

"To achieve your dreams you need to develop few values like commitment, hard work, respect, resilience, passion and love for what you are doing," he added.

When it comes to selecting a role model, there aren't much better than the iconic Ivorian striker whose work ethic was the reason he achieved so much during his time as a footballer and just as much, or more, after retirement. One way or another, he is what most men strive to be.

E1 investment

The former forward along with his partner Gabrielle LeMaire, purchased ownership of a team that competes in the UIM E1 World Championship.

E1 is an electric race-boat championship, and according to the organisation, "was established to create a new, competitive on-water racing proposition based on clean technologies to protect our waters and coastal areas."

He joined an esteem list of owners that include former tennis icon Rafael Nadal, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli, American football legend Tom Brady and American DJ and music producer Steve Aoki.

Remarkable Cars

The former forward has a car collection that is almost as outstanding in his quality as he was during his playing days. Drogba has previously been spotted with a white Mercedes-Benz SLR McClaren that is worth roughly $380 000 (R7 million), according to classic.com.

He has also been spotted in a dashing red Ferrari F430 which is certainly a collector's item and the dream car of many petrol-heads and motoring enthusiasts around the world. To get a hold of such a car would cost someone around a whopping R1.9 million. And to many, it would be worth every single penny.

A life-changing organisation

While the cars Drogba has been spotted with may, to some, make him seem as though he is the stereotypical footballer who only spends money on flashy cars, trendy fashion attire, a mansion and things along those luxurious lines, it would be a completely inaccurate description of the former Galatasaray star.

His organisation, The Didier Drogba Foundation, was created by him in 2007, with "health, women, education, children" being his major priorities. The organisation places immense focus on each of those categories. Additionally, according to its official website, it provides humanitarian services that involve "mobilizing the necessary funds to respond effectively to health, health crises, natural disasters, famine, war and populations in distress".

Not only has the Ivorian made a memorable impact on the world of football, but through his organisation he has managed to make the rest of the world a better place.
