Pyramids boss: Sundowns made us nervous

After their defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, Pyramids boss Jaime Pacheco has explained how the South Africans made them "nervous".

A Teboho Mokoena goal in the 17th minute proved the difference between the two sides as the Brazilians secured three points on matchday four of the CAF Champions League group stage in Cairo on Tuesday evening.

The loss leaves Pyramids FC three points behind Downs and Congolese giants TP Mazembe in Group A, with the Egyptian side set to face the latter in their next encounter.

During the post-match press conference, Pacheco revealed that he had hoped the substitutions he made would have had a greater effect on what he feels were a physically weary Masandawana side during the latter stages of the game but added that his players struggled to come to terms with the early goal they conceded.

"Pyramids did not play a bad match, but Sundowns benefited from the experiences of its players, especially since there are several distinguished elements among its ranks and there has been harmony between its players for years," the Portuguese tactician said, per Kooora.

"I preferred to keep the duo Abdallah Said and Mostafa Fathi in agreement with them for the second half to distribute the team's efforts and take advantage of Sundowns' physical decline, but the goal scored by the visitors made my players nervous."

Both sides will have to wait until February next year to continue their fight to progress to the next stage of the competition when it returns for matchday five.
