Dr Khumalo lists his top five SA ballers!

Former footballer Doctor Khumalo has named his top five current South African players.

Doc Khumalo is arguably one of the best players that the country has ever produced, considering not only his incredible talent with the ball at his feet but also his immaculate trophy cabinet.

His collection of accolades include three South African league triumphs, being part of the country's iconic 1996 AFCON glory, as well as being voted South African Footballer of the Year in 1992.

Doc was a top talent in his heyday, and naturally one would feel that he would be the perfect person to ask who he thinks are the best SA players at the moment.

That question was the one posed to him by presenter Andile Ncube on a 10bet South Africa podcast

"Look, I'll be honest, I really love all of them and they mean a lot to us as a nation.

"But based on the question, I would have loved to say the entire squad you know, but I'll say probably Ronwen Williams, and then you have Lyle Foster, then Percy Tau, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, and then the last one is Themba Zwane."

Three of the five players mentioned by Doctor ply their trades abroad. Lyle Foster has made a significant impact at Premier League outfit Burnley, scoring three goals and assisting on another three occasions in 10 matches.

Percy Tau, meanwhile, has become an integral member of the Al Ahly side who last year won the CAF Champions League for a record-extending 11th time with the South African attacker finishing the tournament as the club's top scorer in the competition.

Hlongwane has been plying his trade in America with Major League Soccer side, Minnesota United FC, and scored 17 goals in 38 appearances for the US side in all competitions during the 2022/23 season.
