Salah to be given new role for Egypt?

Egypt head coach Rui Vitoria has hinted at a possible new role for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations opener.

The Pharaohs warmed up for the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Tanzania on earlier this week, with Salah and Mahmoud Trezeguet getting on the scoresheet.

The Egypt coach also confirmed that Salah would be able to play in a midfield role rather than just being stuck out on the wings.

"We wanted to make sure that everyone is fit and ready today," Vitoria said in the press conference, as per KingFut.

"I think everyone is performing at the highest level because they want to earn their place in the squad but I can only choose 11 players in the end.

"Salah playing a central midfield role? It was clear today that he can play that part and he doesn't necessarily have to play on the wing at all times.

"Omar Kamal has a minor injury that will need to be assessed but Yasser Ibrahim is now ready to play for us," he added.

The seven-time African champions open their group stage campaign against Mozambique on Sunday night.
