Xavi in trouble after Real Madrid defeat?

Barcelona have reportedly made a surprising admission on Xavi's future as the club's manager after their 4-1 defeat to rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.

A 33rd minute goal by Robert Lewandowski proved to not be enough for Blaugrana as Vinicius Jr's first-half hat-trick coupled by a 64th minute strike by Rodrygo handed Los Blancos a domestic trophy

After the crushing defeat, questions surrounding Xavi's future at the club began to arise.

Barca president Joan Laporta has, however, shared the stance taken by the club's hierarchy.

"The question doesn't make sense. It's a final. It's not the time to talk about Xavi 's future," said Laporta per Fichajes.

"He has the confidence of the president, the sports management. It's a tough defeat that has to be discussed, but it doesn't change anything."

Following the defetat, Xavi admitted that his team were not at the level required to compete with Real on the night.

"The way we started the game affected us a lot. We gave away far too much. We weren't pressing properly, but the penalty hit us very hard. We simply weren't up to the level required of a competition like this," he told the club's official website.

"We're furious with ourselves and we need to improve a lot if we are going to fight for titles this season."

Blaugrana still have the league, Copa del Rey as well as the Champions League trophy for which to compete and reports indicate that because of this, the club's executives have decided to wait until the end of the season to come to a conclusion.
