Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Samkelo Zwane has explained the reason behind the jersey number 37 since being promoted in the 22/23 campaign.
A product of the prestigious Chiefs development academy, Zwane broke through the first team in September 2022 and quickly became an important figure for then Arthur Zwane's side for the second half of the season.

Now in his second season as part of the first team, Zwane has opted to stick with the jersey number 37 he wore at first, prompting questions as to whether there could be another meaning to the number.
Speaking on Kaizer Chiefs' segment of Inspired, Zwane explained why he is happy to keep the number.
"Ugh 37? I won't lie, when I got promoted they just gave me number 37," Zwane said.
"But I was happy with the number because the player that wore it before me was Mshini (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo), so you know Mshini.
Like Zwane, Ngcobo is also a product of the Amakhosi development academy and is considered one for the club's brightest success stories of home grown talent.

This season, Zwane has not featured as frequently, making just three appearances in 13 matches under Molefi Ntseki.
However, the arrival of interim head coach Cavin Johnson may prove to be a lifeline for the 22-year-old, who has since made four more appearances in the seven matches that Johnson has overseen.
Chiefs will return to competitive action with a DStv Premiership clash on 13 February against TS Galaxy.
