Algeria keep Afcon journey alive with late goal

Algeria battled from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso in their Africa Cup of Nations clash in Group D on Saturday evening.

Ramiz Zerrouki and Sofiane Feghouli were recalled by the Dessert Foxes, who were held by Angola on Monday whilst Burkina Faso started Bertrand Traore on the bench.

Algeria enjoyed the bright start in the opening eight minutes as Youcef Belaili came out wide after cutting inside to place a curling shot towards the far corner, but saw Herve Koffi equal to the task.

Baghdad Bounedjah, who got the opener against Angola, were denied two goals in two matches when he snapped a loose ball from Issoufou Dayo's rash clearance wide past the water-break.

The Stallions were forced into a substitution five minutes to halftime when Adam Guira succumbed with an injury and was replaced by Ismahila Ouedraogo.

Algeria threatened minutes to halftime when Fehgouli's fierce shot from a tight angle wide of the area drew impressive reflexes from Koffi.

Mohamed Konate got the Stallions ahead in added time as he beat the offside trap to stretch onto a cross-field ball to head in with the goal awarded on consultation with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after being flagged for offside.

Bounedjah responded a minute in the resumption when he poked in a loose ball from close-range as the Stallions fluffed their lines.

The pitch-side monitor called referee Abongile Tom and after reviewing a foul on Kabore in the area, signalled a penalty which substitute Traore tucked in midway through the second period.

In response, the Dessert Foxes made a trio of changes in Adam Ounas, Fares Chaibi and Islam Slimani and pinned the Stallions back.

Bounedjah proved the saviour again in stoppage time when he leaped onto a corner to head home and claimed a point for the North Africans.
