Morocco denied by victory Congo DR

Morocco remain top of Group F at the Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic Congo on Sunday evening.

Former Southampton attacker Sofiane Boufal was the sole change from the Atlas Lions eleven that did duty against Tanzania, whilst the Leopards were unchanged from their draw against Zambia.

Morocco hit the front on six minutes as Paris Saint-Germain's fullback Achraf Hakimi managed to latch onto Hakim Ziyech's curling corner to slam in.

The Leopards got a big chance to go level where the referee in line with the pitch-side review team awarded a spot-kick owing to a hand-ball in the six-yard area.

However, Galatasaray forward Cedric Bakambu couldn't make the set-play count in their favour and fired against the foot of the goal-post.

It was an end-to-end opening spell in the second period with chances either end, where Dylan Batubinsika guided wide from a corner before Azzedine Ounahi snapped Ziyech's cutback.

Morocco showed a trio of introductions midway through the clash, as Bilal El Khannoussi and Abde Ezzalzouli filled in for Selim Amallah and Boufal respectively.

The Leopards were level late in the contest following the last ten minutes when Silas applied a smart finish from close-range after receiving Meshack Elia's pass.

No further goals showed despite the bright bit of moments from either side late on, as it concluded 1-1 with the Atlas Lions' path to the knockout stages delayed.
