Bwalya speaks out on Chiefs links

Walter Bwalya has thrown his voice into the speculation that linked him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs through the last six months.

Bwalya finally had a permanent way out at Al Ahly following loan spells at Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkey, Al Sailiya (Qatar), and Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.

The burly forward had joined Al Ahly at the beginning of 2021 after impressing at El Gouna with 16 goals in 35 appearances.

Unfortunately, Bwalya didn't enjoy the best of times with the Cairo giants and ultimately terminated in August 2023.

"There was interest in my services from clubs in South Africa through the recent months," Bwalya tells KickOff.com from Al-Buraimi, Oman where his new employers Al-Nahda are based.

Bwalya has agreed on a six-month deal and besides featuring in the domestic league, will also play in the AFC Asian Cup.

"With regards to South Africa, I did get approached by teams there.

"There was Cape Town City, SuperSport United, and even Kaizer Chiefs but there wasn't any concrete offer on the table to consider.

"It was normal that I would be linked to teams because I was free, but a deal would only be reached if there was something tangible on the table.

"Unfortunately, with regards to the clubs in South Africa there was nothing solid besides all the media talk.

"What matters is that I must now focus on my job here, score goals and help the team win trophies.

Bwalya was last played for Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Arabia second division.

"I got a good offer here in Oman which is just like being in Saudi Arabia and UAE, so I will get to play football again.

"It made sense for me to take this opportunity since I have not been playing since the end of my last loan spell in Saudi Arabia.

"This is a club that has wanted me for several months and have been calling me morning, afternoon, and evening every day for a while.

"So, considering that they were league winners last year and won the cup it made sense that I come here instead of joining the other clubs struggling further down the standings.

"This is a team with nine players in the Oman national team currently playing at the Asian Nations Cup.

"It is also a team that is second in the league and pushing to win the league again so I think I will do well here instead of being with a struggling team," says Bwalya.
