Sekgota's Stellies exit: 'It must be something serious

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota was surprisingly released by Stellenbosch FC, and a legend has weighed on on the player's exit.

Sekgota joined Stellies from Amakhosi in August last year, as he looked to revive his career after lack of game-time at the Glamour Boys.

However, the Limpopo-born winger also struggled to crack into the Stellenbosch line-up, as he was limited to only three starts in the league and came on as a substitute nine times.

The former Moroka Swallows attacker, however, was involved in the team, as he played in all the games in the Carling Knockout, as the Cape Winelands side were crowned champions, although mainly from the bench.

It came as a shock when Stellies announced that they had parted ways with Sekgota "with immediate effect".

Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo believes Sekgota was not let go for sporting reasons.

"It must be something serious that happened within the camp, because when they say, 'With immediate effect' it means they don't want to see you again," Khumalo suggested on SABC Sport TV.

"You ask yourself what might have been the problem between the club and the boy."

However, '16V' added that from his personal encounters with Sekgota, he knows him as a shy and humble person.

"When he had just arrived at Chiefs, it was not easy for him to come out and I could see he was shy, because when he was talking to me, he could not look at me directly," he went on.

"But he was appreciating my comments on a game we did asking why they didn't bring him on," he concluded.

Ultimately, Stellies could have made a tough decision as Sekgota did not make the impact the club were hoping for after signing him from Amakhosi, where he also struggled to make the line-up regularly.
