'As Chiefs fans we love him too much'

With Staney Nwabali reportedly being warned not to come back to South Africa after his 2023 Africa Cup of Nations heroics, KickOff readers have shared their thoughts on the situation.

What's the story?

According to former Nigeria international Idah Peterside, Nwabali and others have been receiving threats with the keeper being warned not to return to South Africa.

"The biggest problem we have had is that we have gotten some messages where people have sent messages to the goalkeeper threatening him," Peterside told Channels Television, per Business News Nigeria.

South Africans, however, have disagreed with the former international's comments.

Check out what the KO faithful had to say:

"He wasn't even that good. It's our guys who kicked penalties who were weak. He's not that good, he was just lucky that's all. So his safe in South Africa; we understand flukes," says Ta Major.

"As chiefs fans, we will welcome him back because we love him," says Mthwa Quinton Wongile.

"I don't believe that anyway. I think he will not spend much time in South Africa. In the next summer we may see him out of Africa," says Nagy ELhawary.

"Nigerians must stop their imagination. Who can harm him. We understand sports and accepted the defeat. They must stop their nonsense," says Gandamipfa Blackieswart Ram.

"Don't drag South Africans into your madness, we understand sports very well," says Phindile Mambulu.

"We (South Africans) love Nwabali, he is one of our own. He is welcome to South Africa, I wish Kaizer Chiefs can sign him," says Timmy Makuwe-Mzimba.

"Sportsmanship is what South Africans have, it's only a game. He's welcome to play for his team after the games," says Charles Mogale.

"As chiefs fans we love him too much," says Andani Ligege.

"SA understand that this just a game and we moved on," says Emmanuel Manu Mafokwane.

"We are going to protect him, we love him as South African and Kaizer Chiefs fans," says Gucci-dowp Dez Chiloane.

"Lies. South Africans appreciate good players haibo," says Lesia Ramatema.

Meanwhile, SAFA are reportedly set to investigate why Lyle Foster has played for his club Burnley but was not available for his country, after the striker sent a letter to the organisation requesting to be excused from the national team due to medical reasons.

Here's what the KO readers had to say:

"That's good news, he needs to be punished," says Tonicjazz drum master.

"He must be left out of the Qualifiers period," says Orlando Pirates Gugulethu Branch.

"We don't need him. Safa should not waste time with investigations. We have Makgopa and we are happy with his efforts in Bafana," says Mothushi Msaidizi Mjumbe.

"To show respect and discipline to current players, they are supposed to just cut him out forever. There was national team (Bafana Bafana) before him and still there will be national team after him. Let him enjoy his football as he wants," says Raymond Grootboom.

"Let him stay there and apply for English Citizenship. No hard feeling but without him we reache the Semis. We are happy," says S'fiso KaHlomasambe Masango.

"He's not that different from Makgopa, Stellenbosch fc is the answer to our striking crisis since they have way better strikers," says Syabonga Cyah.

"Danny Jordan must sort out the payment of players that represented the nation first and focus on SAFA issues," says KabeloShasha Shasha.

"We need him, he is an exceptional talent," says Ludumo Sputla Salman.

"SAFA must leave this man and focus on our current team," says Johannes Mabona.

"My Guy lost an opportunity to be wanted by top clubs. This was going to be his moment looking at how the team played he was needed to finish the contributions," says Muzi Mkhonde.
