Greenwood to stay at Man Utd? New co-owner speaks

With Mason Greenwood's future at Manchester United hanging in the balance, the club's new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has now spoken out on the matter, seemingly giving the player hope of a return.

The 22-year-old is said to have attracted the interest of LALIGA giants Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, with recent reports suggesting the Red Devils have slapped a £34 million (around R810 million) price tag on their asset currently on loan at Getafe.

Greenwood, who is a product of the Manchester club's academy, joined Geta Azulones at the start of the current campaign after charges of attempted rape and assault occasioning bodily harm against were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 and an internal investigation by United was completed.

With seven goals and five assists in 24 appearances since, his performances have drawn the attention of not only big Spanish teams, but his parent club as well.

It was largely believed that the forward would never represent his boyhood side again, but his promising displays while out on loan seem to be forcing the Red Devils hierarchy to rethink their initial decision to allow him to recommence his career away from Old Trafford.

With the ownership at the Red Devils having officially undergone some change following the approval of Ratcliffe's 27.7% purchase of the club earlier this week, a return to Manchester could now be a possibility for Greenwood.

Speaking about the possibility of the 22-year-old's return, Ratcliffe outlined the questions that would have to be posed when considering whether or not to bring him back into the fold.

"We will make a decision, correct," the British billionaire said, per the Mirror.

"All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that.

"Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if is he a good person or not?

"He's a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football."

Ratcliffe went on to add that it is "clear" a decision must be made on the matter, but also insisted nothing has been determined as yet.

"The process will be: understand the facts not the hype, and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically: is he a good guy or not?

"Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it, and would the fans be comfortable with it?"
