BREAKING: Dani Alves' jail sentence confirmed

The verdict on Dani Alves' rape trial has now been handed down, and the player has found out his sentence.

The Brazilian veteran was arrested in January 2023 after he allegedly raped a woman in December 2022 at a Barcelona nightclub.

The player has been behind bars since his arrest, having been denied bail after the court deemed him to be a flight risk.

Alves initially denied any wrongdoing before changing his story and insisting the sexual act was consensual.

Prosecutors have been calling for a nine-year jail sentence followed by 10 years of probation, according to Channels TV.

It is also said that the prosecution wants him to pay an additional €150 000 (R3 million) in compensation.

On Thursday morning, the court announced its verdict, with Alves having been sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

It is understood, though, that there is a possibility he will appeal the verdict.
