Liverpool's shock cup prize money 'revealed', less than SA cups!

Following Liverpool's Carabao Cup triumph over Chelsea, the competition's prize money has reportedly been revealed, and it appears to be shockingly lower than all of South Africa's top tournament trophies!

A 118th-minute goal by Reds captain Virgil Van Dijk was the only difference between the two sides on Sunday as Liverpool claimed a 1-0 win to give Jurgen Klopp his 10th trophy as manager at the club.

The feat also saw the Anfield outfit extend their record as the most decorated side in the Carabao Cup with 10 titles.

According to 90min, Liverpool have now walked away with just £100 000 (R2.4 million) in League Cup prize money, while runners-up Chelsea have received £50 000 (R1.2 million).

For context, that prize money is lower than that of South Africa's biggest cup competitions, namely the Carling Knockout Cup (R6.85 million), the Nedbank Cup (R7 million), and the MTN8 (R8 million).

Meanwhile, Klopp, who is down to the final months of his tenure in Merseyside, said this latest Carabao Cup is the most "special" trophy of his career.

"In my 20 years, this is easily the most special trophy," the German said, according to Yahoo Sports.

"I couldn't care less about my legacy. I was not here to create one.

"This was so special. What happened here was absolutely insane, these things are not possible.

"The team, a squad, an academy full of character. I am so proud I could be part of that tonight.

"The craziest thing is, we deserved it. We had lucky moments, they had lucky moments. The boys showed up, it was really cool."
