Lane: SA have another Masinga in Makgopa

Orlando Pirates legend Gavin Lane says Evidence Makgopa has similar traits to Bafana Bafana legend Phil "Chippa" Masinga.

Makgopa continues to be a threat to the opposition following his good performances for Bafana Bafana in the recently concluded Africa Cup Of Nations tournament.

The Bafana striker was on target again as Pirates collected another three points in their DStv Premiership encounter against Polokwane City.

Lane, who has had many battles with the late Masinga in matches against Mamelodi Sundowns in the past, backs Makgopa to succeed in his football career.

"I watched Makgopa quite a lot when he was playing in the AFCON, he looks like he is on fire at the moment and he is scoring goals all the time," Lane tells KickOff.

"It's nice to see someone other than Peter Shalulile scoring goals all the time, he is a good striker.

"He's built like Chippa was, tall and lanky. He gets into good positions all the time.

"In the last few seasons, we've lacked a quality striker and now with Makgopa, things look good for South Africa and Orlando Pirates.

"He might not be scoring a lot of goals, but I like him because he gets himself into good positions and he is a hard worker.

"I have faced Phil Masinga lots and lots of times, facing him was the most difficult thing because he looked like he was small and lanky and he was very good in the air and he could dribble, he was a very quality player.

"I've had a few battles with him but at the same time always got on well with him and had a laugh, he was a great striker.

"Hopefully Makgopa can continue with Pirates and score goals for us,"

Makgopa has now scored five goals for the Soweto Giants in 15 league appearances.
