Ex-Amakhosi coaches show interest in Chiefs vacancy

Kaizer Chiefs' next coaching appointment is creating an inferno of interest with prospective candidates plotting various schemes of landing the job.

Cavin Johnson is pulling the strings on a caretaker basis at Naturena and will make way at the end of the season enabling him to return to his head of development role.

The next appointment will be the fifth consecutive off-season change that Chiefs have made since dumping Ernst Middendorp in favour of Gavin Hunt.

Hunt then passed the baton to Stuart Baxter who was forced to make way for Arthur Zwane who then surrendered the reigns to Molefi Ntseki at the beginning of this season.

Uncharacteristic of Chiefs, they have had no coach who has lasted two years since Steve Komphela fired blanks during his time at the helm.

Baxter – who remains the last coach to win silverware at Chiefs – came back six years after he left, but it didn't work out for him.

Middendorp picked up silverware in his first spell and upon returning 11 years later let the league title slip through his fingers on the last day.

Ertugral had silverware in both his spells, the last of which was 15 years ago.

This website has now been informed that through the myriad of applications that have flooded the Chiefs inbox along with targets that they are contemplating, two former coaches have shown interest.

Scanning through the list of those that have previously called the shots at the club and will be available it is the pair of Ertugral and Vladimir Vermezovic that stand as possible candidates that have shown interest.

Ertugral has held no head coaching job in the DStv Premiership for five years.

He has all the experience needed to work in domestic football having held jobs at six clubs in this league.

Then with VV, he also delivered silverware and just like Errtugral is available on the market.

VV was sacked at NS Mura of Slovenia two weeks ago after just five months in charge.

2. Vermezovic – 1.81 PPG – 150 points in 83 games

Locally, the Serbian has also worked at Orlando Pirates.

Kaizer Motaung Jnr and the rest of the decision-making crew at the club must make a solid call following revelations that Brazilian coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo will be open to considering the job.

Luxemburgo has coached Spanish giants Real Madrid and the Brazil national team and was most recently with Corinthians until the end of September 2023.

This website already reported that Chiefs interviewed Alexandre Gallo last year to no success with the Brazilian still at Santos.
