Former SAFA vice-president Ria Ledwaba has been banned from participating in any football activities under the jurisdiction of the mother body in the country.
SAFA has banned Ledwaba after she had applied to both Gauteng and Western Cape High Courts to stop presidential elections in June 2022.
The former Ria Stars boss took the mother body to court after pointing out irregularities in the amendment of the constitution during the SAFA congress in March 2022, which she believed was aimed at favouring Dr Danny Jordaan in his bid to win the presidential elections. Dr Jordan went on to win the SAFA presidential elections on June 26 after amassing 186 votes to retain his term in office for the third time in succession.
SAFA has now since confirmed the banning of Ria Ledwaba and suspension of Solly Mohlabeng from all football activities after the duo took the association to court before the presidential elections in June 2022.
According to a memo released by SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao, Mohlabeng remains suspended pending a disciplinary hearing at the SAFA offices in Johannesburg.
"With reference to the High Court matter between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Ms. Ria Ledwaba and Mr. Solly N Mohlabeng, we wish to inform you that the Judge ruled in favor of SAFA. The ruling also awarded costs to the Association. The court held Ms. Ledwaba and Mr. Mohlabeng had no grounds to review the SAFA elections or any right to seek arbitration of issues determined at the election process", read the memo sent to all SAFA NEC members.
"In alignment with a prior resolution by the National Executive Committee (NEC) which mandated the suspension of members resorting to legal action against SAFA, the NEC has since reached the following decision.
1. Suspension of Mr. Solly Mohlabeng with immediate effect, pending a disciplinary hearing
2. Declaration of Ms. Ria Ledwaba as a persona non grata within our organization thus disqualifying her from all and every football-related activity under the jurisdiction of SAFA.
