'Relegation must be an option if Man City are guilty'

Relegation must be an option if Manchester City are found guilty of financial breaches, according to a former Premier League CEO.

The Manchester outfit were charged by the Premier League in 2023 with 115 separate breaches spanning over nine seasons.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have already had points deduced this season after being found guilty of financial breaches.

A date has been set for City's case but it has not been made, but former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness says relegating City must be an option.

"We saw it with Rangers with their employee benefit problem and the tax situation," Wyness said told Football Insider.

"That was expulsion, and they ended up going down a few leagues.

"The way it would kick off with Man City would be incredible, we know that. It would be an earthquake.

"But it has to be an option.

"The Premier League have backed themselves into a corner by giving Everton a ten-point penalty, which is greater than the punishment for going into administration.

"Where do you go with something bigger than that? They've left themselves with no room for manoeuvre."
