Bonkers finish for Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have been left with the challenge of having to squeeze the possibility of 18 games into eight weeks.

Sundowns have a date with Cape Town Spurs on Tuesday in what will already be game number 43 of the season and the first of a possible 18 that they must play until June 2.

The Brazilians have 11 league games remaining, plus at least one Nedbank Cup (which could become three if they reach the final), then at least two in the CAF Champions League (which could become four if they proceed to the final).

After tomorrow's game – which is under threat of not being played due to weather conditions in Cape Town – Sundowns will be up against University of Pretoria in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals on Friday.

Should they go through, then Rulani Mokwena's men will play the semi-finals on May 4/5.

In the league, after the trip to the Mother City, the Brazilians will then have the short trip to Dobsonville for a date with Moroka Swallows on April 16.

From there, they have the two-legged CAF Champions League semi-final to play against Esperance on 19-20 April and 26-27 April.

This means the league game against Sekhukhune United scheduled for April 27 will have to be moved to another date.

The only matches involving Sundowns that will not be affected are against Kaizer Chiefs (April 30) and Royal AM (May 7 and May 11).

Six league games are now in the queue for dates that must be found from now until June 2 depending on how the Chloorkop-based outfit does in both the Nedbank Cup and Champions League.

If Sundowns reach the Champions League final, then they will play on May 18 and May 25, which throws the last two rounds of the PSL fixtures into turmoil.

The Nedbank Cup final is set for June 1, with the FIFA calendar week running from June 3-11.
