BREAKING: Chiefs give huge update on Vilakazi

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that academy graduate Mfundo Vilakazi has penned a fresh long-term deal with the Soweto giants.

Chiefs confirmed via their social media platforms on Wednesday that the highly-rated teenager has signed a deal that will keep him at Kaizer Chiefs Village until 2028.

In a dreadful season for Chiefs that sees them battling for a spot in the top eight in the final stretch of DStv Premiership fixtures, Vilakazi has been one of the very few things the Amakhosi faithful can smile about.

The teenager first showed glimpses of readiness for top-flight football during the Carling All Stars XI match against Stellenbosch, where he got his name on the scoresheet.

Vilakazi would later make his official debut for Chiefs during the Nedbank Cup last 32 defeat to Milford, where he came on as a second half substitute and impressed.

The 19-year-old has since only made a brief one-minute cameo appearance in the Soweto derby defeat to rivals Orlando Pirates.  After the match, Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson admitted that he had made a mistake in bringing on the teenager too late.

"We almost did it, it was just a bit a bit late," he admitted.

"But he did get a bit of the derby. That's the way football goes."

Amakhosi's decision to formally hand Vilakazi a long-term deal may signal more chances for the talented youngster. That chance may come as soon as Sunday when Chiefs meet Richards Bay.
