Ex-Ahly star: CAFCL finalists are easier opponents than Downs

A former Al Ahly star has insisted that their upcoming CAF Champions League final opponents are easier opposition than Rulani Mokwena's Mamelodi Sundowns would have been.

The Egyptian giants trounced Tanzanian side TP Mazembe in the semi-finals to advance to the tournament decider, while their next opponents, Esperance Sportive de Tunis, overcame the South African outfit to book their spot in the final.

Former Egypt international Hassan Mostafa, however, believes that, with Masandawana out of the picture, the chances now weigh heavily in favour of Marcel Koller and his men.

"Without a doubt, it will be a strong confrontation between two major teams on the African continent, but chances are in Al Ahly's favour, because it is the highest in level and experience," he said, per Kooora

"Esperance is certainly easier, as Sundowns faced Al Ahly before and outperformed them on more than one occasion, and outperformed them in the African League.

"This matter would have represented an obstacle unlike facing Esperance."

The 44-year-old went on to highlight the Tunisian's side strengths.

"The most prominent feature of Esperance in the recent period is its great cohesion with its current coach [Miguel Cardoso], in addition to the presence of players capable of making a difference, which was reflected in the team's recent results and their arrival in the final match."
