Matthew Rusike: From Chiefs baller to brokering PSG deal

From early retirement to a seamless transition to being a footballer representative, former Kaizer Chiefs goal-poacher Matthew Rusike is now a rising agent with talent in the European leagues. Here's a look!

The story

Rusike spent a large part of his relatively short career playing his trade in South Africa for clubs like the University of Pretoria, Jomo Cosmos, Chiefs, and a later stint with Cape Town City.

The Zimbabwean called time on his career aged 29 back in December 2019 after spells in Norway, Sweden, and Tunisia as well. Since then, the now 33-year-old is a player agent with BHM Sports Agency.

In September 2022, the former striker brokered what could be the most high-profile deal of his career, as he helped former FC Barcelona star Rafinha's move from Paris Saint-Germain to Al Arabi.

Since then, the Brazilian star, who is the brother of Liverpool playmaker Thiago Alcantara, has registered seven goals and nine assists in 39 matches for the Qatari giants.

Before the deal was completed, though, Foot Mercato reported that Rafinha initially pulled out of the deal due to personal reasons. However, now we can only speculate whether Rusike was the one who convinced him to put pen to paper on a two-year deal, which is due to expire next month.

Rusike, who is based in Europe, has managed over forty players since venturing into player management over four years ago through partnership with someone else.

Rusike also said to have facilitatted Isak Hien's move from Swedish top-flight club Djurgarden to Serie A side Hellas Verona while soccer 24 report that the former striker brokered Lorenzo Gordinho's transfer from Bidvest Wits to Danish top-flight side Viborg FF in 2020.

In his personal life, Rusike remains a stylish character as he has always shown - check out some of his drip in the gallery below!
