Chiefs midfielder in a ‘tight situation’

Kaizer Chiefs' list of decisions that will be made at the end of the season have left Lehlogonolo George Matlou walking with concern about his situation.

Matlou joined Chiefs in July 2022 with the hope of growing on from what he had done at Moroka Swallows.

Unfortunately, his time at Naturena has turned stagnant as proven by his numbers.

Two full shifts this season, which came as far back as September and October last year, provide most of what Matlou has done this season.

The other eight games have been either as a substitute or as a player who was substituted, with the last appearance coming six months ago.

Since sitting on the bench in the first Soweto derby, Matlou has battled with knee concerns that have left him out of the squad for 17 games in a row.

What doesn't make it even better is that in his first season at Chiefs last term, his 15 appearances were spread over a mere 378 minutes.

This has meant in two years at Chiefs, the tall midfielder has not totalled 900 minutes on the field.

He has no goal to his name and only a single assist playing from central midfield.

Complicating Matlou's situation is the fact that he is out of contract at the end of June and Chiefs cannot be blamed for prioritizing talks with him, giving a signal that he will be left to walk at the end of June.

Why should Matlou get a new deal at Chiefs?

This will be the question that the lad from Meadowlands and his handlers will ask themselves and then provide answers before attempting any shot at trying to engage the club.
