The Englishman was speaking after Erik ten Hag's side picked up a 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night, and acknowledged one of the standout performers on the night, Bruno Fernandes.
The former Derby County manager emphasised the importance the Portugal international has in the squad while stating that the players around him are not good enough.

Previous reports have suggested that the side's hierarchy will listen to offers for all of the players currently in the squad, except starlets Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.
The former striker went on to echo similar sentiments, advising the Red Devils to keep a hold of their young talent, along with the Portuguese midfielder.
"I think you keep the young players, and you keep Bruno," he continued.
"I think it has to be a massive clear out. It has to be. It's not going to be in one year, but I think it's going to be in the next couple of years."
Rooney was then asked about players like Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, and Harry Maguire. The 38-year-old labelled them as "good players", but added that the club require better.
"I think he [Onana] has had a shaky start but has got better and better over the year," he said.
"For me, Dalot's done well, Maguire has had an in and out season.
"To compete in this league they need better players. Don't get me wrong these players are good players. But to compete with Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal, they need better players."
