The 30-year-old took his boots off momentarily and replaced it with the hand wraps and gloves needed to practice some fighting.

The Masandawana star was training under the mentorship of professional mixed martial artist Ntando 'The Zulu Warrior' Zondi who once knocked down an opponent with with a thunderous kick to the ribs.

It's safe to say that Mendieta has found a worthy mentor.

That showed while he was training as the midfielder who, undoubtedly, possesses the capability to rocket a football with his legs showed what he can do with his hands.

The Argentine showed off some sleek punching ability while hitting the pads, throwing double jabs and vicious right crosses. He also displayed an ability to roll under punches as though he has been taking boxing lessons for years.

The fighter once paid homage to the footballer by recreating Mendieta's heart celebration during celebrations after winning a bout. He then took to Instagram to share the fact that he performed the celebration and tagged the Downs star in an Instagram story.

It seems as though his initial gesture led to a meeting between two heavyweights of their respective industries.
