Williams’ remarkable load this season

Mamelodi Sundowns' Nedbank Cup final match against Orlando Pirates will push Ronwen Williams to new territory again for a footballer playing for a South African club.

The decider in Mbombela will count as number 57 for the season for both club and country this season.

That number will stretch to 59 within the next two weeks with 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against Nigeria and Zimbabwe to come in Bafana Bafana colours.

Never, throughout the PSL era years, has any player attached to a local club done as much game-time playing from start to finish in every game.

Williams is the only player to have already surpassed 5000 minutes this season with his time on the field now on 5160 minutes for Sundowns and Bafana.

'Ronza' will play his 46th match of the season for club on Saturday, while he is on 11 for Bafana, including his last in the 3-3 draw against Algeria in March.

Notable is that he has 35 clean sheets from 56 games for both club and country.

It has been a campaign in which he has made saving penalties a trademark and already has his fingerprints on AFCON and COSAFA personal awards.

The 32-year-old is nominated for Footballer of the Season, DStv Premiership Players' Player of the Season and DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season.
