More exits looming at Pirates

With three departures already confirmed by Orlando Pirates, several more changes are expected in the Soweto giants' camp before the end of the month of June, KickOff understands.

The Buccaneers consolidated what they can look back on as a successful second season for head coach Jose Riveiro.

The Spaniard wrapped a consecutive Nedbank Cup title, having earlier won the MTN8 title and finished second on the DStv Premiership log to seal a spot in next season's CAF Champions League.

However, a need a replenish the side has already seen two exits in player personnel, while assistant coach Sergio Almenara left at his own request, citing family reasons.

This website understands that the departures of Souaibou Marou and Fortune Makaringe are only the beginning of what is expected to be somewhat of a major overhaul of the squad, with several players currently having their future in the balance.

ERASMUS

Striker Kermit Erasmus' is among the big-name players expected to face the exit door at the club.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man joined Pirates on a shock two-year deal ahead of the start of the 22/23 season. While he has proven reliable when called upon, the pint-zoned attacker has struggled to find consistency and, consequently, game-time.

It also does not help his case that he turns 34 in July and would have to compete for a starting berth with the likes of Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa and Zakhele Lepasa.

MONARE

Midfielder Thabang Monare is another one expected to leave. The 34-year-old faces a similar dilemma to Erasmus; being on the wrong side of 30. The side's midfield boasts plenty of younger and capable talent in Miguel Timm, Makhehlene Makhaula, Siphelo Baloni, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Thalente Mbatha.

The latter's representatives are in talks with Pirates to make his loan move from SuperSport United permanent.

Monare's initial deal with the Buccaneers expired at the end of the 2022/23 season but was extended for one year. It is not expected that the club will extend it further.

OFORI

Richard Ofori is another player whose current deal with the Soweto giants is set to expire at the end of June, and could be on the way out from what this publication has gathered.

The Ghana national team captain has strangely been left out of the Pirates starting XI for all 30 league matches and played no part in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup triumphs.

Ofori's three appearances all season came in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds and the Carling Knockout.

Intel gathered by KickOff.com suggests both club and player will be seeking solutions, with an exit the likely outcome.
