AmaZulu FC have announced the departure of Nigerian striker Augustine Kwem as they try to pick up the pieces from a mediocre season that saw them finish in a disappointing 11th spot.
For all the ambition that Usuthu president Sandile Zungu harbours for the oldest club in the league, repeatedly emphasizing that they need to be a top four side, the team has rather regressed from the time they finished second under Benni McCarthy.

Finishing the campaign on a mere 36 points means the KwaZulu-Natal outfit were only two defeats away from occupying 15th spot, where Richards Bay FC ended up.
For his part, Kwem delivered eight goals, having made 11 starts in all competitions. He came on as a substitute on 19 occasions in all competitions, giving a clear indication he was used more as an impact player by head coach Pablo Franco Martin.
In total, the former Chippa United man spent two seasons at AmaZulu, making 49 appearance, among them 23 starts, while finding the back of the net 11 times.
With more questions than answers about the 2023/24 season, preparations for next term have begun in earnest.
KickOff reported on Wednesday that 26-year-old Kwem was being courted by Cape Town City, and now these latest developments could see him getting closer to sealing a deal with Eric Tinkler's side.
Meanwhile, the Citizens parted ways with five players on Thursday, among them striker Thabiso Kutumela.
