Playing under 30 coaches at one club

Andile Mbenyane's retirement talk after 14 years of service at Chippa United will come with the headache of not knowing how many coaches he played under during his time at the club.

The man from Mbekweni, Paarl got his break into the professional scene at Ajax Cape Town during the 2007/08 season, playing his first game against Kaizer Chiefs.

Instead of moving upwards from the four appearances he managed, he regressed as he found himself sent out on loan to Ikapa Sporting in the First Division.

Upon returning to Ajax after a year, he was then offloaded with his next stop becoming Mbekweni United in the third-tier league, where spent a season, before switching to Chippa United in 2010.

Mbenyane - ow 36 - was a huge catch for Siviwe Mpengesi, whose club was also in the third tier at the time.

At Chippa, he won promotion in consecutive seasons from the third tier to the second and then the DStv Premiership.

This meant being back in the top league in the 2012/13 season after four years in the lower leagues.

His time at Chippa, which has also come with a stint at sister club BCM Stars, has left him with a huge list of coaches that he saw in charge at training.

Mbenyane has seen Mike Lukhubeni, Duran Francis, Professor Ngubane, Roger Sikhakhane, Manqoba Mngqithi, Julius Dube, Farouk Abrahams, Wilfred Mugeyi, Mark Harrison, Ian Palmer, Vladislav Heric, Kosta Papic, Ernst Middendorp, Mich d'Avray, Velile Dyaloyi and Dan Malesela all calling the shots at the club.

There has also been Mbuyiselo Sambu, Teboho Moloi, Eric Tinkler, Joel Masutha, Clinton Larsen, Norman Mapeza, Rulani Mokwena, Lehlohonolo Seema, Siyabulela Gwambi, Gavin Hunt, Kurt Lentjies, Daine Klate and Morgan Mammila, who handed the baton to Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo.

As is the nature with football and life in general when changes come, Mbenyane found joy working with some and will never say the same with others.

Across the world, there would be few, if any players, that have played under so many coaches at one club.
