'Big decision' made on African star amid EPL interest

A surprise decision has reportedly been made on an African star who has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League giants.

Victor Osimhen is believed to have attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain after firing Napoli to a Serie A title in the 2022/23 campaign and scoring 17 goals in 32 appearances over the course of this past season.

Now, however, the Italian side have made a decision to keep the striker, according to transfer insider Vincenzo Morabito via Soccernet.ng

He highlighted that the club's main reason for choosing not to let go of the Super Eagles star is because they have been unable to find an adequate replacement for him, also revealing that Gli Azzurri were assessing Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku.

"Lukaku is not a viable option for Napoli, partly due to age reasons," Morabito said on the Italian radio show Radio Sportiva.

"This is why Napoli are considering a sensational decision: keeping Victor Osimhen."

The Nigerian, whose contract with the club is valid until 2026, is now believed to be likely to stay, with his reported market value said to be part of the reasons as to why.

It has been claimed that the Serie A side have slapped a price tag of just over €120 million (R2.3 billion) on the 2023 African Player of the Year.

It is believed that PSG have shown interest but have not yet made a formal approach while clubs from the EPL and the Saudi League are said to be keen on the striker, though have not met Napoli's valuation of the forward.

It has been suggested that the club will not be considering any offers that do not meet the amount they have demanded for Osimhen.
