France make big Mbappe decision after broken nose

The French Football Federation (FFF) has made a major decision regarding Kylian Mbappe after he broke his nose at the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

France claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Austria in their opening game of EURO 2024 on Monday.

While the result may have been what the side had been expecting, Les Bleus suffered what seemed to be a huge setback when Kylian Mbappe was forced off the pitch late in the match while covering his bleeding nose.

The untimely injury came after his face met the shoulder of opposition defender Kevin Danso during an aerial challenge.

The 25-year-old was then taken to hospital, where it was confirmed that he had suffered a broken nose.

The FFF has since confirmed, however, that the captain will not undergo surgery, and that a mask would be made for him in an effort to get the attacker swiftly back in action in Germany.

"Kylian Mbappe returns to the base camp of the French national team," the federation said in an official statement.

"The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture.

"Mbappe will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future.

"A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment."

The Real Madrid star certainly seemed to be in good spirits after receiving the news, taking to social media to comically ask his followers if they had "any ideas for masks", having famously been pranked by ex-Paris Saint-Germain teammate Thiago Silva with a Ninja Turtle mask a few years back.

The side led by Didier Deschamps, meanwhile, will be hoping their talisman will be available for their next Group D encounter against Netherlands, which is scheduled to take place on Friday night.
