‘He is happy and will honour the Sundowns contract’

An official word has been thrown over the head of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil following recent speculation over him.

AB has completed two years at Sundowns since being signed on a transfer worth approximately R6,8 million.

However, upon arrival at Chloorkop, injury and fitness issues disturbed him and he had to wait for months to make his debut, which proved to be worth the wait.

He eventually turned into a key player in the later stages of the CAF Champions League in his first season and while his overall contribution was only 11 appearances, there was no doubting his qualities.

Through the past season, the 26-year-old's input went up to 20 appearances and he was one of three players who played every minute in the successful African Football League campaign.

Unfortunately, injury issues have limited his appearances throughout this calendar year, having last played in March.

This has led to rumours of departure, with a return to Morocco being cited.

"AB is happy at Sundowns and has a contract that he will honour," Hicham Dehbi of Dehbi Sports Agency, who work as Boutouil's representatives, tells KickOff.

"AB has a contract until 2027 and will not be going back to Morocco anytime soon.

"His contract is with Sundowns until 2027 and next year will be going to the FIFA Club World Cup with the club.

"I repeat, AB is happy in South Africa and the coach is happy with him," says Dehbi.

This website has gathered that the likelihood is that AB will move to the Gulf Region post the expiry of his contract at The Brazilians.

The Moroccan has had a career that has taken him to FAR Rabat, KAC Kenitra, SC Chabab Mohammedia, Raja Casablanca and Royale Union Saint Gilloise but has now settled at Sundowns.
