Man Utd make huge Ten Hag 'decision'

Manchester United have now reportedly made a huge decision regarding manager Erik ten Hag after the club opted to keep the Dutch boss in charge next season.

Many were left surprised when it emerged that United would be retaining the services of their manager despite enduring a poor 2023/24 Premier League campaign, which saw the club finish eighth on the table.

Winning the FA Cup earlier last month appears to have given the Dutchman a lifeline as he now has won two trophies in his first two seasons in charge of the Red Devils.

Following an end-of-season review, the new Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led hierarchy determined that Ten Hag is the right man for the job going forward, although it first appeared that he wasn't when the club approached former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel about the role.

Nevertheless, United have now offered Ten Hag a two-year contract extension worth a massive £27 million (R627 million), according to the Daily Mirror.

The 54-year-old is said to have already agreed to the deal in principle, but nothing is final at this stage, with the matter set to be finalised later this week.

It is believed the club also want to appoint their former player Ruud van Nistelrooy as part of Ten Hag's backroom staff, but the retired forward is also understood to be a candidate for the vacant Burnley helm.

Speaking to The Coaches' Voice earlier in June, the former PSV Eindhoven manager named Ten Hag as part of a list of "great Dutch coaches" that he has looked up to and taken inspiration from.

"At Manchester United, Sir Alex [Ferguson] was always pushing us forward. Look forward, play forward, get crosses in, shots on target.

"As a player, I loved the way that made me feel. I wanted to play like that, and I want to transmit that same feeling to my teams, to my players.

"There is a long history of great Dutch coaches, and I have so much admiration for the careers they have had. Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff, Louis van Gaal, Guus Hiddink, Dick Advocaat, and now, of course, Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot.

"It is motivational for me to continue learning, to continue improving myself, and maybe one day make the steps to show I am capable of that."
