'I paid for the operation myself'

Burundian striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has spoken out on the sad turn of events that have frozen his club career since he left Kaizer Chiefs.

Bimenyimana last played club football at Chiefs in May 2023 prior to his departure that came with interest from Morocco.

However, he ultimately signed for Al Ahli Benghazi but then terminated his contract without ever playing for the Libyan club after an injury while on national team duty last September.

"I signed for the club there for three years, but I then got injured while on national team duty," Bimenyimana tells KickOff.

"What then happened is that the Libyan club didn't want to pay for the operation even though I was now under contract with them.

"So, I then paid for the operation myself based on that I will then cancel my contract with them.

"Even though I had signed for that club, I never set foot there and right now I don't even know what Libya looks like.

"In the end, we were able to go separate ways amicably," he notes, indicating that he is heading towards completing his return to action.

"I should be able to start full training at the end of this month (July).

"I have some options on the table right now, but I need to completely recover from this injury first.

"There is no need to rush because I want to be able to perform to the best of my abilities when I'm back.

"What is important is that when I return, I'm fully recovered," says Bimenyimana.
