Chiefs graduate to stagnate further?

The transfer business being conducted by Kaizer Chiefs, which has identified the left flank as an area in need of strengthening, has left one of the club's graduates at risk.

Chiefs have added Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs to their roster, making him their third addition after Bongani Sam and Fiacre Ntwari.

Dortley is a left footer who can play both at centre-back and as a left-back, which is where he appears poised to play at the Naturena-based outfit.

The departure of S'fiso Hlanti has opened the left-back position for new takers with Sam having already arrived from Orlando Pirates.

Amakhosi have already backtracked on another left-back option, Edmilson Dove.

Dove initially appeared on his way out and was even allowed to join Mozambique for the COSAFA Cup but was called back on the eve of the tournament at the request of the new technical team.

The 30-year-old – who is currently injured – is left-footed and can play both in central defence and at left-back, an area that has been given specific attention.

With Dortley, Sam and Dove all capable of playing left-back, this leaves plenty reasons of concern for Happy Mashiane in matters related to becoming a regular at the club.

While Mashiane can also play further up the pitch just like Sam, this will be a season of worries if he doesn't play regularly as he turns 27 on New Year's Day.

He is into his seventh season in the first team at Chiefs but is yet to establish himself having had minutes in under a third of the club's games since he made his first-team debut.

Should he fail to convince Nasreddine Nabi – the seventh coach that he has played under at the club since he was promoted – then he could finally have to leave.
