Why Rulani won't give PSL players favours

Wydad Casablanca's appointment of Rulani Mokwena could be seen as opening the door for PSL players at the club but the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has revealed why those suggestions are far-fetched.

Coaches all over the world have their preferences and normally after moving to a different club, they tend to reunite with some of their former players.

Not long after Mokwena was announced by Wydad, the club was already linked with the signing of Bongani Zungu, who is a free agent after leaving The Brazilians.

The 37-year-old coach allegedly got himself in hot water with the Sundowns Sporting Director Flemming Berg after pursuing the signing of Thembinkosi Lorch, whom he worked with at his former club Orlando Pirates.

However, at The Red Castle, the Soweto native coach would not have to think too much about players from the PSL, after he revealed that the network of the Casablanca giants is quite extensive with regards to their recruitment.

"The good thing now is that you have the people, you have the network, the support. We're using some of the people who work for some of the clubs in Europe, who are scouts," Mokwena said on Metro FM Sports.

"There are players that, for example, can't go to Tottenham [Hotspur], maybe Tottenham has too many players in that position or they think the player doesn't have certain qualities to play for them but he's a good player.

"So they've given us a couple of lists from Liverpool, Tottenham and we're looking at those players to try and see what we can do especially because they've [Wydad] got even broader networks, in South America, the rest of Europe," he added.

Wydad are currently under three transfer bans by FIFA but Mokwena also revealed that the club's management assured him that they would pay off the former employees they owe for their ban to be lifted.
