The announcement comes after months of reports that DStv would be pulling out of their R800 million sponsorship per season of Mzansi's elite division, which that included naming rights and the DStv Diski Challenge, with MultiChoice citing financial constraints.
MultiChoice had taken over from Absa, who sponsored the League from 2007 to 2020 under the banner of the Absa Premiership.
Since then, the league had been named the DStv Premiership in a sponsorship agreement that lasted just three years in what was originally a five-year-deal expected to end in 2025.

Betting company Betway had been widely reported as the frontrunners to replace DStv, having previously made multiple attempts to sponsor one of the more prominent teams in the league but ultimately failing due to the PSL's strict rules on collaboration with betting companies.
