LALIGA giants 'close' to landing England star

One of LALIGA's biggest clubs is now reportedly close to securing the services of an England star.

Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Chelsea for midfielder Conor Gallagher, with the two parties settling on a price of €45 million (around R884 million), according to Diario AS

It is claimed the Blues initially demanded a price closer to €50 million (R982 million), but the two parties have now seemingly settled on the abovementioned fee after lengthy negotiations.

The move is now said to lie with the England international, with it being suggested that he is interested in the idea of starting afresh in the Spanish capital.

With the player claimed to be training on his own at Cobham, Los Rojiblancos have reportedly given the 24-year-old until the end of the week to confirm his decision.

The midfielder is believed to have also attracted the interest of Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, with the former said to have submitted a better offer than Atletico's.

It has, however, been claimed that Gallagher rejected the Birmingham-based side, with Chelsea also reported to prefer to sell the Englishman to a team outside of the country as they would not be direct rivals.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Gallagher reportedly rejected a renewal offer, with an increase in salary, from the Blues at the end of July.

The midfielder is a product of the London side's academy, and since breaking into the first team, he has made 95 appearances for the club, amassing 10 goals and as many assists, while he has also featured for the Three Lions on 18 occasions to date.
