Holders Orlando Pirates advanced to the semi-finals of the MTN8 after defeating SuperSport United 3-1 on Saturday night.
Pirates kept their regular line up from last season, as Tshegofatso Mabasa, Monnapule Saleng and Relebohile Mofokeng led the attack while new signing Gilberto was not in the squad. Meanwhile, SuperSport had former Buccaneers winger Vincent Pule in their line-up.
The Soweto giants had a lion's share of possession but Pule almost gave United the lead on 12 minutes with a strike that sailed slightly over the crossbar from a counter-attack.
The home side eventually had a shot on target on 23 minutes after a good turn by Mabasa on the edge of the box but his shot was thwarted by goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.
Jose Riveiro's charges threatened again on the half-hour mark after Goss had to deflect a goal-bound effort by Mofokeng.
Pirates eventually broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, as their pressure paid off after Olisa Ndah converted a close-range shot from a corner.
Gavin Hunt's men were spirited from the break, as within four minutes into the second stanza, Pule levelled matters with a header after he was setup by Bradley's own headed pass following a long ball.
Pirates were very much in the game and on the hour-mark, they nearly restored their lead after Mofokeng's deflected shot wrong-footed Goss, but he made a last-ditch save off the line.
Riveiro showed attacking intent with 18 minutes to go, as he brought on Kabelo Dlamini in place of Makhehlene Makhaula, in a tacticial switch, to take the game to United.
The Buccaneers had the momentum in the closing stages but SuperSport kept their shape at the back and did not give them anymore spaces in dangerous areas.
United eventually held on until the final whistle in regulation time and extra-time was required after a 1-1 draw.
The Soweto giants set the tone just in the second minute of extra-time after Saleng restored their lead with a close-range finish following a set-piece.
SuperSport almost levelled matters half-way through in extra-time time with a close-range shot at the back post that brought the first real save from shot-stopper Sipho Chaine.
However, late substitute Evidence Makgopa finally put the game to bed for Pirates moments later with a strike from outside the box after he capitalized on a loose ball.
