His reported appointment comes after the USMNT relieved former coach Gregg Berhalter of his managerial duties following a shock group-stage exit at the 2024 Copa America.
The team finished third in Group C behind Uruguay and Panama after winning just one of their three encounters.
The side is said to have considered multiple candidates for the role, but the former Southampton manager soon emerged as the favourite.
It is claimed the decision to appoint the former Blues boss comes with the aim of him leading the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada.
The ex-Premier League coach has previously worked with current USMNT sporting director Matt Crocker during their time together at the Saints.
After leaving St Mary's in 2014, Pochettino went on to manage Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and most recently Chelsea.
He guided the Lilywhites to a UEFA Champions League final during his five years at the London club, won the Ligue 1 title with PSG, and guided the Blues to a sixth-place finish in the 2023/24 EPL campaign.
