Al Ahly star finally 'gets agreement' to join Euro club

One of Al Ahly's star players has now reportedly finally seen an agreement reached for him to join a big club in Europe.

Mohamed Abdelmonem will sign a sign a four-year contract with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice that will run until June 2028, with the player set to touch down in France in the next few days, according to KingFut.

It is claimed that securing the defender will cost the French outfit $4.3 million (about R77 million), plus $1 million (R17 million) in add-ons.

The clubs are also said to have agreed that the fee will be paid in two instalments, with Al Ahly possibly benefiting from a 10% future sell-on fee.

Abdelmonem is said to be Nice's replacement for defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who will be spending his 2024/25 campaign in the Premier League after joining West Ham United on a season-long loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.

The Egyptian, meanwhile, would go from competing in the CAF Champions League to representing the French outfit in the UEFA Europa League after the Eaglets finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season.

The agreement comes after Nice reportedly submitted an initial bid of $2.5 million (R46 million), which was rejected, followed by a second offer of $3.5 million (R65 million), which was also turned away by the Club of the Century.

Now, however, it seems they have finally landed the services of the Egypt international after several other European clubs were suggested to be interested in him.
