Cross-Indian Ocean move for ex-Usuthu striker

While seven league goals from nine starts appeared a great return for Nigerian striker Augustine Chidi Kwem at AmaZulu FC, he has been left to seek his next deal some 10 000km away.

Kwem played 23 games in the league last season but came on from the bench in 14 of those matches and yet delivered seven goals.

Despite this encouraging return, AmaZulu chose not to exercise the option on his contract, paving the way for him to consider his options.

There was hope Kaizer Chiefs could turn to him, but it failed just like he wasn't tempted by Marumo Gallants' offer along with Egyptian club Petrojet, amongst the list of options that he had to consider.

In the end, he has settled for Hanoi Football in the Vietnamese V.League 1.

The Nigerian striker has signed a one-year deal.

"The club had an option, but they didn't exercise it, so that is why I left," Kwem told KickOff last month.

"It was the club's decision not to exercise, which is normal in football.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity that I got while I was with the club.

"What matters now is that I will have to move on to another club because I also feel I need the change of environment.

"It is important to respect the fact that the option was in the club's power, and they made the decision that was best for them.

"From now on, I look forward to doing a job for another club," said Kwem.

The marksman arrived in South Africa in 2017 and had to stay in Protea Glen, Soweto in his early days, before battling it out in the lower divisions until he got his break at Chippa, where he was recommended by Bruce July.

This was prior to moving to TS Galaxy and AmaZulu.
