Basadien responds to Chiefs transfer interest

Fawaaz Basadien has spoken out on Kaizer Chiefs' interest in his services, which has left question marks hanging about is true evaluation on the market.

Basadien has put in firm displays throughout the two years that he has spent with the Cape Winelands club since making the switch from Moroka Swallows.

Sixty-five appearances in two seasons at Stellies have been more than enough for Chiefs to take interest in Basadien, who also has assist numbers in double figures throughout that time.

This season, he has maintained his cool despite the interest from the Naturena-based outfit, scoring thrice in five appearances.

Stellies have demanded way more than what Amakhosi have been willing to pay, which is why they have since turned to Bradley Cross, who will cost R3 million.

"For me personally, it is to control what I can control," says Basadien when asked about staying focused through the transfer storm.

"I'm contracted to Stellenbosch and that is where I'm playing, and all I can do is put in good performances week in, week out.

"I'm there to do a job and never mind what is going on around the media.

"Obviously, it is good to have a club like Chiefs interested in you, but I'm contracted to Stellenbosch and my focus has always been there so that I put in good performances week in and week out," says Basadien, who is currently with Bafana Bafana ahead of the AFCON qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.

"Growing up, I wanted to represent my country and fortunately for me, I have put in some consistent performances and the coach selected me.

"All I have to do now is take my chance and make the most of it," he says.
