A drug-convicted star now appears to be joining a new club while he fights a six-year prison sentence for smuggling huge quantities of cocaine.
Dutch footballer Quincy Promes is set to join United Arab Emirates second-tier side United FC from Spartak Moscow on a reported one-year contract.

The move comes after he was sentenced to six years in prison in February 2024 by a Dutch court for being complicit in the smuggling of 1 350kg worth of cocaine.
The 32-year-old has avoided arrest thanks to the fact that he was in Russia, which has no extradition treaty with the Netherlands, at the time the ruling was handed down, meaning that the player could not be brought back to his country to begin his prison term.
United FC released a video teasing the transfer on Wednesday, with Promes now set to join them on a free transfer after three years in the Russian capital.
Promes is understood to have appealed his conviction for the drug-smuggling case, with the outcome thereon still pending.
Moreover, he was also convicted for 18 months behind bars for stabbing his cousin during a family event in 2020.
According to NL Times, the former Ajax Amsterdam player has been in the UAE for several months, but the country is yet to honour the extradition treaty that exists between them and the Netherlands.
