Italy silence Mbappe's France with comeback win

France 1-3 Italy

Italy enjoyed a perfect start to the UEFA Nations League after a comprehensive 3-1 victory over France on Friday evening.

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali made a welcome return to the Azzurri, with Davide Frattesi and Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori given starts too, while Michael Olise earned a debut for Les Blues with Kylian Mbappe up top as captain.

It took the two-time World champions only a minute to get going as Bradley Barcola made total use of smart possession play amongst others and bulged the net.

The Azzurri raced back on the half-hour mark when Federico Dimarco drilled in an audacious effort from a tight angle way out of the box – leaving Mike Maignan stunned.

Frattesi got the visiting nation in front for the first time in the match with a decent finish from a clever position before Giacomo Raspadori made it three a little later and ultimately ensured victory.

Wales 0-0 Turkiye

Wales and Turkiye shared the spoils in a goalless draw in the opening clash in the League B Group 4 of this particular tournament.

The Turks weren't able to play the remainder of the contest with a full complement of players this as Baris Alper Yilmaz saw red in the closing exchanges for an indiscretion amongst others.

However, playing a man less didn't affect matters as the home outfit failed to take advantage of the situation and instead left the contest to conclude goalless.

Belgium 3-1 Israel

Belgium dished out a sterling performance against Israel in League A Group 2 and secured a 3-1 triumph in Debrecen.

The host as expected unleashed a star-studded front trio comprising of Jeremy Doku, Lois Openda and Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

Indeed, De Bruyne proved decisive for the Red Devils a few minutes into kick-off when he broke the deadlock but an own-goal from Timothy Castagne evened matters for the visitors.

Belgium continued to enjoy momentum after halftime and went ahead through Youri Tielemans before De Bruyne nabbed his brace with a strike from the spot.

There were no more goals from either nation as the match continued – with the home team making a solid start to this season's venture.

Slovenia 1-1 Austria

Slovenia and Austria battled to overcome one another in a League B Group 3 opener and played to a 1-1 draw to leave matters up for grabs.

Star player Benjamin Sesko hit the host on the front-foot albeit from the penalty spot earlier on following a foul in the six-yard area.

Although, the lead weren't sustained as in the space of minutes the Austrians levelled when Konrad Laimer fired in a delivery from Phillipp Mwene, and all square it remained.
