Ten Hag fires back at Ronaldo: 'He's far away in Saudi'

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has fired back at Cristiano Ronaldo over his recent criticism of the club.

It is no secret that Ronaldo and Ten Hag don't see eye-to-eye, as the two of them infamously fell out with each other two years ago, resulting in the player terminating his contract by mutual agreement just weeks before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The straw that broke the camel's back was Ronaldo's explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, in which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner did not hold back in his criticism of the club and Ten Hag in particular.

The Portugal superstar openly said he has no respect for the Dutch tactician and the striker would eventually join Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr in January 2023, where he reportedly became the highest-paid player in the Saudi Pro League.

This week, Ronaldo was again critical of Ten Hag and his side, telling the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast: "They need to rebuild everything, in my opinion.

"The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the league and Champions League. Manchester United coach... you cannot say that you're not going to fight to win the league or Champions League."

With the Red Devils returning to Premier League action this weekend against Southampton, Ten Hag was asked what he made of Ronaldo's comments and the 54-year-old was quick to dismiss his former player's remarks.

"He said that Manchester United can't win the Premier League," Ten Hag said in a press conference on Thursday, according Sky Sports.

"He said this if you read the article very well. He's far away in Saudi, far away from Manchester. Everyone can have an opinion. It's okay."
