PSL coach confirms Nurkovic talks

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that the club is in talks to sign striker Samir Nurkovic after the Serbian parted ways with TS Galaxy last week, much to the shock of many in the football fraternity.

SuperSport are confronted with what can be termed a crisis up front with club top scorer Bradley Grobler out of action due to a lengthy injury and the exit of striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who has been loaned out to AmaZulu FC by parent club Mamelodi Sundowns.

In their search for goals, SuperSport have been linked with Orlando Pirates marksman Zakhele Lepasa, who appears destined for a move away from Orlando.

Whether that materializes remains to be seen.

However, for the time being the Sunninghill-based outfit have their immediate attention firmly on Nurkovic's signature.

The former Kaizer Chiefs man banged in a respectable 10 goals in 29 matches for the Rockets last season.

Speaking to journalists at Matsatsantsa's media day on Thursday, Hunt admitted that talks were already underway with the player.

"He is a big option for us, obviously, if we can [get him]," Hunt shared.

"He's become available now, but I'm not the bean counter, so it works differently.

"There's a hurry because we've got a game on Saturday and we're struggling up front. We're playing midfield players there, so it's a problem for us."

"Hopefully we can do something between now and me getting on the phone again (asking management for new players).

The Tshwane outfit are sitting rock-bottom of the Betway Premiership table after matchday one after suffering a 2-0 defeat to cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.

Hunt will hope to have Nurkovic in his artillery when his charges takes on Royal AM on Saturday.
