With only two teams yet to be confirmed as part of the 32 participating clubs for the next Club World Cup, it is now being reported that Inter Miami's recent cup triumph will earn them one of the vacant spots in the expanded tournament in the United States.
According to talkSPORT, FIFA are set to confirm Inter Miami as host representatives of the 2025 CWC, which would see Messi play in the competition for the first time since 2016 with FC Barcelona.
Messi appeared at four editions of the tournament with Barca, winning it in 2010, 2012, and 2016.
FIFA recently confirmed the 12 venues for the tournament, with the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami being named among the host arenas, which could potentially be the stage for the opening match of the tournament.
The Club World Cup will see top teams from various confederations, namely AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA, fight for the world title.
European giants such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea are some of the headline teams, while Sundowns, Al Ahly, Wydad Athletic Club and Esperance de Tunis will be CAF's four representatives when the showpiece takes centre stage from 15 June to 13 July next year.
