Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has warned against desperation as Kaizer Chiefs receive the latest opportunity to end a nine-year trophy drought through the Carling Knockout.
The Soweto giants are approaching what will be a tenth season without a single piece of silverware to show for their efforts, having last lifted a trophy in the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter.

Their tenth-place finish last season kept them out of this season's MTN8 and so, Amakhosi's next opportunity to end the drought comes in the Carling Knockout, where Chiefs have been drawn against SuperSport United in the last 16 of the cup competition.
Speaking at the launch of the tournament on Tuesday, Petersen has warned against desperation.
"It is never good to be desperate," the goalkeeper said.
"When you are desperate you never really get what you want.
"We're looking to see what we can do to end this drought and what better way to start than the Black Label (Knockout) Cup?
"We'll be going out treating every game as a final and wanting to go all the way and win it. Hopefully, that can set the tone for the rest of the season.
"You can see by the way we have been playing, there is a new energy and vibe on the field."

To their credit, Chiefs came close to ending the drought in 2020 when they lost league tile on the very last day of the season and in 2021 when they were defeated by Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly in the final of the CAF Champions League.
